A person should not consider him diksita (initiate) as long as divya jana (transcendental knowledge) has not truly manifested in his heart.
Some are maybe 50 % inclined, some 70%, some 90%, some even 99% but still one percent is missing, that is the arrangement of Maya. Diksa is a very long procedure. One should not think that I got Mantra from Gurudeva and all is done. Maybe at the time of diksa one is showing some inclination, but that is incomplete Saranagati. It is not so easy for a bondage soul to ignore all body related matter. One can speak much Philosophy about that topic, but I want to give one example by which one can easily understand what I mean to say.
Let’s say in one village one dam is broken, and all water starts to flood the whole area. Suppose everybody sleeping. And suddenly they discover that they are all floating in water with strong current. Then in that moment everybody is going to save themselves. They have no time to think about others. Even mother is going to ignore the small child, father going to ignore his son, husband going to ignore wife, what to do in this miserable situation? At last one person by the grace of the Supreme Lord came across one branch of a Banyan tree while being taken away by the current flow; in that case what would be the mood of that person. Somehow with full energy he is going to take shelter of that Banyan tree to protect himself.
Now we can realize that Saranagati means to take full shelter of the Lotus feet of Guru and Vaishnava, which can save as from the strong current of Maya’s flow. We are going to get lost in this vast cosmic creation, who is going to protect us.
Sometime we can see that during war period, helpless men from one country coming to another country to take shelter. This is also one kind of temporary Saranagati, not permanent, because suppose the war is over they can go back to their respective place if the situation demands so. Also at the time of marriage, wife going to take shelter of husband, a just born baby going to take shelter of mother, “OK”, but the definition of perfect Saranagati is totally different from those last examples given above.
