Śrī Śrīla Shyām Dās Bābā Mahārāja
Date – 20.08.2026
Gauḍīya Goṣṭhī Pati Śrī Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda said that –“We are all infinite small jīvātmās and Bhagavān is vibhū vastu, so how can we get in contact with Bhagavān?”
Only and only after perfect dīkṣā we can grow the power to catch and digest hari-kathā perfectly. Sometimes we can find some exceptional cases like Śrīla Bhakti Vedānta Vāmana Gosvāmī Mahārāja. When he came to the maṭha, then already in young age he could understood perfectly what he was hearing from the Lotus mouth of The Prabhupāda and his pārṣadas and also was in a position to apply all those scriptural instructions perfectly in his own life, but that is very special case. So one reason can be there that some devotee already took shelter unto the Lotus feet of a Sad Guru in his previous life, but maybe somehow he was not successful, that’s why again in this life he got the chance to take birth in such a special situation so that he can continue his bhajana from the point where he stopped before in his previous life. In this condition that devotee can have a natural inclination and understanding about all those siddhānta vicāras presented in authentic śāstra. But the usual rule is that only after taking shelter unto the Lotus feet of a Sad Guru, one can realize and digest perfectly all those siddhānta vicāras of śāstras and also he can feel disgusted with those material activities. Actually the inner meaning of śāstras can only get manifested inside the heart of one sat-śiṣya.
ācāryo ’raṇir ādyaḥ syād
ante-vāsy uttarāraṇiḥ
tat-sandhānaṁ pravacanaṁ
vidyā-sandhiḥ sukhāvahaḥ (ŚB 11.10.12)
The spiritual master can be compared to the lower dry wooden piece, and the disciple can be compared with the upper dry wooden piece, and the instruction given by the guru can be compared with the sudden appearance of fire (I mean the enlightenment of divya jñāna). The transcendental knowledge communicated from guru to the disciple concerned can compared to the fire arising from the friction of the two dry wooden pieces, which can erase the darkness of ignorance to bring a great evolution, I mean to develop divine happiness.
In today’s society of so called devotees many try to learn about spiritual life through books, internet etc. But Śrīla Gaura Kiśore Dāsa Bābājī used to say that – Yes some people can go to the market to buy some books to learn something about devotional life, maybe they have sufficient money in their pocket, but from where they can get actual realizations. Without having a firing example in front of us it is almost impossible to make advancement in bhajana life. That is why in this context we can find the above quoted śloka from Śrīmad Bhāgavatam to justify the point properly. Just by realizing this single śloka one can get a very clear understanding about Guru-tattva-Vaiṣṇava-tattva etc.
Without the lower araṇi—the firm foundation of the realized ācārya—the fire can never start. One may gather information from all across the globe, memorize some ślokas, and become a so called big big paṇḍit, but transcendental knowledge can never arise from information alone. The inner meaning of śāstra can only awaken inside the heart of one sat-śiṣya. Anubhava or actual Realization is only born out of akaitava guru-sevā. That is why my Gurudev told to me –“Never try to pass lecture in front of public because nobody have time to hear any lecture from you. Who care to hear your lecture? Only if possible you can maintain your absolute ācāra-ādārśa then people can come to you automatically without being invited, just like honeybees are coming to any flower to collect honey from it, because through your continuous guru sevā you can develop direct realisation about that aprākṛta jagat, only and only then than you can speak Harikathā.” Such words alone have the power to ignite the saṅkīrtana agni and sevā bhāva in the hearts of others, and at the same time can burn down all the ignorance inside our dirty heart into ashes, so that finally pure devotion can awaken inside our heart.
Perfect sevā mood of Śrī Guru-Vaiṣṇava-Bhagavān can help us to cut material bondage very easily and to reach the goal of śuddha-bhakti. This kind of result of Guru-Vaiṣṇava-Bhagavān sevā can never deprive us, even after we leave our body we can get the result of that sevā. At least one can have the to have a chance to start Hari bhajana again in the next life. That is the excellent facility one can get by being engaged in the sevā of the Lord. In Bhagavad-gītā we can find the following śloka—
nehābhikrama-nāśo ’sti
pratyavāyo na vidyate
sv-alpam apy asya dharmasya
trāyate mahato bhayāt (Bg. 2.40)
In this endeavour there can be no loss or diminution, and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear of death.
So the divine procedure — dīkṣā is related to our atma and not to the body and mind. It is only and only by the help of caitya-guru that we can realise hari-kathā in true sense, and also feel it necessary to take shelter at the Lotus feet of Sad-Guru. Without Guru kṛpā it is impossible to realise bhagavat-tattva-vijñāna. So we must remember always – “guru-kṛpā hi kevalam.” True avoidance of asat-saṅga means surely that you are interested to get sat-saṅga in true sense all of the time. We should only be interested in hearing from our Gurudeva, from Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, from Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupada and all our Sarasvat Guadiya Guruvarga, then we can get real power to cut doubts and confusion inside of our heart about what is called actual dīkṣā or what is actually called devotional life. But your tendency to hear mixed hari-kathā from different sources can put you in great danger.
