“Śrī Gauḍīya Goṣṭhī-pati, Oṁ Viṣṇupāda Paramahaṁsa Parivrājakācārya-varya Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda said that—When a great disturbance arising within the field of devotion—when all the true standards are being destroyed, when all wrong conceptions are spreading everywhere—then either Bhagavān Himself appears or He sends His own pārṣada to rectify the situation to restore the current flow of pure bhakti.

When everything in the devotional field starts to become diluted and the original track of the pure siddhānta gets lost, when there is absolutely no ācāra-ādarśa etc., then in that case it is the standing commitment of Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself to come either in the form of Bhagavad-avatāra or in the form of a pure bhakta. In Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa told that—

yadā yadā hi dharmasya

glānir bhavati bhārata

abhyutthānam adharmasya

tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmy aham                          (Bg. 4.7)

“Whenever and wherever the current of the absolute dharma is broken—when genuine śuddha-bhakti-dharma becomes totally covered up by adharma, then at such a moment, I will personally appear to re-establish the absolute and pure dharma and to crush down the waves of irreligion that seek to overshadow the Absolute Truth.”

paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ

vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām

dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya

sambhavāmi yuge yuge                                  (Bg. 4.8)

“For the nourishment and protection of those who are surrendered to śuddha-bhakti, and for the destruction of the miscreants, especially those so called flag holders of dharma, I descend again and again in every yuga to re-establish the eternal principles.”

When the devotional field is completely opposite and demons act out of their own dirty self-interest in the name of devotion—then Bhagavān is bound to intervene, either as a Bhagavāta-avatāra or Bhagavāt bhakta. The Supreme Lord Himself is not bound to come personally to start or to establish the system of paraṁparā, because that can be done easily through any of His deputed devotees (His own pārṣada-bhakta).

All the different kind of problems arising only from one single point. What is that? — Our forgetfulness of our real self. ‘Who am I in true sense’ –that is the main question. If there is any mistake in that judgment then naturally countless problems must follow. One problem leads to another and nobody can stop it. So the main thing is how to maintain a continuous flow of remembrance (dhruvānusmṛti) of Bhagavān. A sādhu can be identified by his continues remembrance of Bhagavan — how exclusively he is in touch with Bhagavān all the time.

Kali gradually will take over the devotional field

As soon Śrī Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān left this world, Kali entered and influenced everybody gradually. Yudhiṣṭhira Mahārāja himself could witness the changes after Śrī Kṛṣṇa gone from this world. Suddenly after Kṛṣṇa’s disappearance līlā he could see big changes among the public. Honest people started to cheat others, chaste ladies started to grow illicit relationships etc. etc.

One rich man who used to live outside the village allowed some farmer to cultivate his own land because it was lying without any care. One day that poor farmer discovered one golden coin while ploughing that land. Curious, he started to dig further and finally he discovered a huge amount of gold coins lying there. Later on, the message went up to the king. The king took decision to ask the owner of the land about the discovery. The owner of the land told that—“I have given the responsibility to the farmer to cultivate my land because I am staying outside, so I cannot take care of the land. Anyway, he has discovered the treasure, so I think he has the right over that treasure.” In this way the case was solved very easily. But after Kali had entered and Kṛṣṇa gone to His own abode, the same owner of that piece of land returned in a very aggressive mood to take control over that treasure which was found by that farmer before by saying that—“Give me my property back—it is my land.” In this way, due to the influence of Kali, many sudden ugly changes started occurring.

That is the reason for why, I mean due to the influence of Kali, it is almost impossible to do Hari-bhajan sincerely nowadays, but if at all some positive bhajan visible in somebody, then that must be a great miracle.

The Prabhupāda used to say that—“At the time of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, those faithful to Him kept apart from non-devotees to avoid contamination. Seeing this, the personality of Kali sent his representatives in disguise to pollute the Vaiṣṇava sampradāya. Posing as Vaiṣṇavas, they spread their wicked doctrines and appeared so intelligent and devoted that only pure devotees could detect their real identity. Most devotees (not only the most neophyte) were enchanted by their tricks. In this way Kali’s agents expertly introduced karma, jñāna, and anyābhilāṣa in the Vaiṣṇava sampradāya and caused śuddha-bhakti to vanish from this world.”

Gauḍīya Goṣṭhī-pati Śrī Śrīla Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda repeatedly warned his followers about the subtle yet powerful influence of Kali. He described how Kali entered the community of Vaiṣṇavas, not by showing open hostility, but by the trick of deception. In this way at present it is a great confusion to realize who is Vaiṣṇava and who is not Vaiṣṇava, because Kali has a big network to expose non-Vaiṣṇavas as Vaiṣṇavas. His warning is just like an unbearable alarm bell, but at present the noise of false preaching is so loud that nobody can even hear that alarm bell.

During the manifesting līlā of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the faithful followers of the Lord maintained strict boundaries all around the pure area of the pure devotional field to avoid any possibility of contamination with non-devotees & those sahajiyās. They could realize that the intimacy with those who are indifferent to śuddha-bhakti or even having hostile attitude against those pure devotees can only create confusion or problem in the devotional field. By avoiding such contact, they were successful to preserve the purity of śuddha-bhakti.

Kali, however, is very cunning, so by watching that those associates or the followers of Śrīman Mahāprabhu cannot allow my direct entry, then Kali started making a new plan or strategy to bring all those Māyāvādīs or karmīs or wayward devotees to join into the society of Śrī Gaurāṅga (Śrī Gaurāṅga samāja) to create great confusion inside the devotional field so that nobody can get śuddha-bhakti to cross over the limit of strong Māyā. That is the reason for why in the name of the preaching of Caitanya Vāṇī almost everybody running for lābha-pūjā-pratiṣṭhā or kāminī-kāñcana etc. He has been sending his own agents in this world in the guise of devotees dressed in the uniform of ācāryas or sannyāsīs or brahmacārīs, because through them—their external exhibition of devotional practice Kali can cheat those common public in the best possible way which is impossible otherwise.

Those imposters externally appearing as very gentle and learned, people can come in their trap very easily by watching their very sweet behaviour etc. Their actual motive can never be detected by those foolish common people. That is the advantage that Kali always likes to use for the propagation of his influential field. Only those most realized and pure devotees can arrest them red-handed.
