The Supreme Personality of Godhead’s pleasure potency is Srimati Radha Thakurani. In order to distribute the bliss of Srimati Radharani, Sri Sacinandana was born as the son of Sri Govardhana Dutta and Srimati Sarada Devi in the village of Jahanabad, Khejuri, Midnapore, West Bengal, India. Sacinandana joined the mission of his gurudeva, His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur Prabhupada (Srila Prabhupada) at Sri Caitanya Math located in Sridhama Mayapur at the age of 21 on the auspicious day of Gaura Purnima in the year 1928.
He served Sri Caitanya Math wholeheartedly under the shelter of Sri Vinode Bihari (later known as Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshav Goswami). After three years, in the year 1931, his gurudeva, Srila Prabhupada, seeing his service attitude and mood of following in the footsteps of Srila Keshav Goswami Maharaja and all the senior vaishnavas, happily gave him harinam and diksha (first and second initiation). After initiation, Srila Prabhupada gave him the name, Satprasangananda Das Brahmachari; locally, all the devotees used to call him Satish Prabhu. After second initiation, Srila Prabhupada appointed him to serve the deities of Gaura Gadadhara at Champahatti which were installed by Dwija Vaninatha, the brother of Gadadhara Pandit. Champahatti is located in the island of Rtudvipa, one of the nine islands of Navadvipa. Champahatti represents Khadirvana, one of the 12 forests of Vrindavan.
For 69 years (1931 to 2000), Satprasangananda Das Brahmachari (Satish Prabhu) wholeheartedly followed the order of Srila Prabhupada. In 1990, at Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math in Mayapur during Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa-puja day, he took Babaji initiation from his godbrother, His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Goswami Thakur, founder-acharya of Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math and received the name Srila Nayanananda Das Babaji Maharaj. Due to his old age and due to the antagonistic mood of some brahmacharis, he was forced to leave his service at Champahatti and subsequently, came to stay at Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math, Ishodyan, Mayapur. fter Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Goswami Thakur’s physical departure, Srila Nayanananda Das Babaji became the president of the World Vaishnava Association through a unanimous vote. On January 21st, 2003, in the early morning after the mangal arati of the deities at Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math (Sri Sri Gaura Gadadhara, Sri Sri Radha Gopinath, Sri Lakshmi-Nrsimhadeva, Sri Jagannathdeva), he physically left this world. He was put into samadhi on the same day on the premises of Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math, Mayapur. He leaves his spirit, service attitude, and teachings behind for all of us. I’m sure that if anyone follows his exemplary devotional teachings, that person can get pure devotion and be delivered from this miserable world. Srila Nayananda Das Babaji’s last surviving disciple, Sri Sajjan Das Brahmachari, currently serves at Sri Gopinath Gaudiya Math, Ishodyan, Mayapur.
